Will SC Pass a REAL School Choice Bill?
The LITMUS TEST For SC Legislators
We have said it from the beginning of the 2023 legislative session … “real” SCHOOL CHOICE & the PACE Scholarship Bill (S 285) will be the LITMUS TEST by which all of our SC State Legislators will be judged this year. If there is one bill that will EXPOSE the monied special interest, petty corruption, and high school antics at the SC State House, this is it.
WHY THIS BILL? you can read more about it HERE and HERE but mainly because we know the issues backwards and forwards. The bill involves K-12 students – special needs kids & low income kids – specifically and it involves doing the right thing!!!
School Choice is an easy Republican Platform issue and all the Republican politicians campaign in support of school choice. SC has a “super majority” so it should be easy to pass … and our state currently has the nation’s worst rated school choice program. It is an EASY FIX. Question is, will legislators fix it, or not??? This is the LITMUS TEST they will all be judged by.
PACE (S 285) HAS ALREADY PASSED THE SC SENATE … SO WHAT WILL THE SC HOUSE DO? Let’s watch and learn as we have just 4 weeks left in the 2023 Legislative Session. Leadership in the House has promised S 285 will be passed, the bill is supported by the SC House Freedom Caucus, so everyone should be in agreement. But, will they actually pass S 285? Or will legislators play their games? Games that in this case impact special needs children … our most vulnerable citizens.
The 2023 legislative session is all over on Thursday May 11th … so now is the final 4 week push.
CALL YOUR SC HOUSE REPRESENTATIVE:
Free-market School Choice is a Republican Platform issue. This is a no-brainer. It helps kids, specifically, special needs and low income kids and it saves taxpayers money … what could be better.
CALL, text, email your SC House Rep, the one in Columbia, not Washington D.C., TODAY!
Contact them on Facebook or Twitter, go knock on their door (they are your neighbors) … but let your SC House Rep. know you want the PACE Scholarship Bill (S 285) passed out of the SC House Ways & Means Committee, to the floor to pass the House AS IS / WITH NO CHANGES, so that it can be SIGNED INTO LAW in MAY 2023!!!
LEARN how the legislative process works with this bill and learn the “tricks” your legislators will pull. LEARN if your legislator is helpful or if they will just give your excuses.
Make this the LITMUS TEST for “who” your legislator really is. We are sure they campaigned on supporting kids and school choice … well this is their chance to prove it.
