PEARL HARBOR DAY – 82 YEARS LATER
Sunday morning December 7th, 1941
Both of my Grandfathers served in World War II. One left The Citadel when they closed the school and went on to fly on a heavy bomber … one was ground and pounding and a mean guy on the front lines (at least that is what I have been told – lol). My paternal grandmother also served … as a young nurse … and my maternal grandmother had FIVE brothers physically Pearl Harbor that infamous day, and it was weeks before my great-grandmother and the rest of the family knew they were all safe. All from right here in the South Carolina Lowcountry.
Imagine, three kids (or eight including my great-uncles) in their late teens / early twenties … today … going off to war. It was a different time for sure!!!
Pearl Harbor Day always hits me as I reflect on what my grandparents could have thought and felt on Sunday morning December 7th, 1941. Were they excited … or scared? Did they have any idea how their lives would change? And what must my 5 great-uncles have felt seeing Japanese’s Zeros and carrier bombers flying overhear … and hearing the “super-dreadnought” USS Arizona (HERE) explode killing 1,177 officers and crewmen. How would I (or you) feel in any of their shoes?
I wish I was a high school teacher to put a few seniors through that “thought exercise” today.

No, we don’t encourage “betting” … but we do encourage following the BETTING ODDS (aka “Predication Markets”). Polls can be easily manipulated … and these prediction markets can be as well … but when people have to put their money where their mouth is, it is a lot harder to fake.
We love studying these elections … the data, the momentum, the candidate’s personal pros/cons, the donors and the dark money really controlling candidates … the CONSULTANTS … it’s all fascinating.
As we teach, NOTHING is what it seems in politics.
This SC Governor’s campaign will be one to study. The “autopsy” will be amazing. We expect the “Powers that Be“ will start listening to the MAGA / America FIRST grassroots in the future … but we will find out for sure if there are lessons to learn next Tuesday.
