The SCGOP had their quarterly State Executive Committee meeting this past Saturday in Columbia … and it was a rather quiet and uneventful meeting (details to follow) … except for one major issue … the recognition of Pamela Godwin as the duly elected Chair of the Lexington County Republican Party (LCRP).
Chair Godwin won election in a landslide (75% +/-) against former SC State Rep, former candidate for SC Attorney General, and local attorney Todd Atwater (HERE & HERE) back in April 2023 … but like many TRUMP supporting County GOPs in South Carolina, some factions have been unwilling to accept the election of said parties and are seeking to disrupt party operations. #FollowTheMoney!!!
It also did not help that Ms. Godwin oversaw the censure of Senator Katrina Shealy (HERE) for her vote against the Heartbeat Bill (HERE) … something the SCGOP Resolutions Committee, as Chaired by Terry Hardesty, State EC from Berkeley County, has refused to allow to come to the full State Executive Committee for a vote.
Why No SCGOP Censure?
SIDEBAR ISSUE: Ask yourself … why won’t the SCGOP “Censure “the three Republican “Sister Senators” who voted against LIFE? And remember, whether Terry & Chairman Drew McKissick like it or not, “The Right to Life” is the #1 issue on the SC Republican Platform!!! (HERE)
Mental Manipulation?
I has been widely “misreported” on social media and via some questionable media sources (HERE) that that Chair Godwin had been removed from office.
Removed as in past tense … already gone.
RECOGNIZED BY THE SCGOP: But Ms. Godwin was signed-in and allowed entry to the SCGOP State Executive Committee meeting on Saturday on behalf of the LCRP … permitted to speak … all indicating that the SCGOP clearly recognizes Pamela Godwin as the current Chair for the LCRP.
As many know it has been the longstanding position of the SCGOP that a County Officer, elected at a County Convention, can not be removed unless they resign or violate the very specific provisions of the SCGOP Rule 5(e). Any local vote or local rules to the contrary are null & void.
The Anderson county Example: This SCGOP position on removal of a County Chair was made clear when several years ago the Anderson County Republican Party (ACRP) Executive Committee UNANIMOUSLY voted out then chair Cheryl Teague-Cuthrell … and the SCGOP refused to acknowledge the removal. [NOTE: Reportedly Ms. Cuthrell had attempted to cancel the local ACRP Executive Committee meeting claiming to need to be with a sick relative (and a likely vote against her) … but when it was discovered that instead of being with her sick relative she was attending the Greenville County GOP Bronze Elephant Dinner the same night … the vote was unanimous for removal.]
WOW!!!
SCGOP Rules Committee Guidance: Ironically, as part of the regular rule guidance provided to the SCGOP Executive Committee, the Rules Committee addressed a similar issue this past Saturday regarding replacement of Precinct Officers. Regardless of local rules, no Precinct Officer elected during ReOrg can be replaced against their will (except under very specific SCGOP rules exceptions). Simply stated, there are no “recall” provisions.
Like it or not … #NoExceptions!!!
WHY No Exceptions? We can only speculate, but if it were possible to recall or removed elected Party officials from ReOrg and County Convention … or State Convention for that matter … this would be going on all over South Carolina, all the time, and would likely become unmanagable. We can’t remove “real” elected officials here in South Carolina until the next election (yet) … and we can’t remove “Party” elected officials either.

Criminality?
Back to Lexington …. the “splinter group” in there has taken it to a new level. Two of the five elected LCRP County Officers (the 1st & 3rd Vice Chairs) have apparently stepped way over the line by ….
(#1) absconded with the LCRP Facebook page,
(#2) set-up a new LCRP website on 8/11/2023 (actual page HERE, faux page HERE), and most troubling
(#3) are soliciting funds from unknowing individuals.
Taking money under false pretenses … that is a serious problem … and perhaps a crime???
Faux Chair Election?
And to top it all off … the splinter group is purporting to have a new election TONIGHT, October 2nd at the same time as the regularly scheduled LCRP Business Meeting occurring at their long-term LCRP venue, the Lexington Chamber and Visitors Center.
As per the splinter groups Facebook post (on the original LCRP Facebook page which they have illegally usurped), this faux election will occur down the road at the Flight Deck Restaurant.
Lots More to Come!!!
Obviously if your intent was to support the old guard RINO “establishment”, creating this sort of division and confusion is exactly how you would do it. It is not something the old TEA Party folks ever did … but we are not dealing with the old TEA Party folks either are we! The Uniparty is omnipresent … so as we teach, “Watch what they DO, not what they SAY.”
We suspect there will be a lot more to report on the LCRP in the coming weeks … so stay tuned and follow the facts, the Rules & the Law.
Remember, Precinct ReOrg, County Conventions and the SC Republican Party are all ultimately governed by State & Federal Election LAW. If you think the “law” considers January 6th an “insurrection” … what exactly is going on in Lexington and places like Greenville and Charleston? These aren’t simple homeowners association or garden club disputes … there are serious legal and political governance implications at stake.
Simple Theft? RICO? A Criminal Conspiracy? (HERE)
Stay tuned … this will likely get very interesting.
