OPINION: SC Needs Lawyer Reciprocity.
South Carolina … home of the good ole boy lawyers club.
In conjunction with our South Carolina Needs Judicial Reform, our state also needs lawyer reform.
What is lawyer reform? Real simple … we need to allow experienced lawyers who are members of the bar in other states to “waive into” the South Carolina Bar in order to practice law in South Carolina as well.
Currently, and this applies to me individually as well since I am member of the Georgia State Bar, out-of-state lawyers have to start from scratch to practice law here in South Carolina. That means taking the state and national bar exam again … something may of us have not done for well over 30 years … and paying some rather hefty fees.
Sure, who cares if “lawyers” have to pay the price and work a little harder … but the reality is citizens end up paying the price as the lawyers we have to chose from are a bit of a good ole boys club. Nothing has demonstrated that fact more than the recent Alex Murdaugh murder case in Hampton County … and the lawyer and judicial connections that case has exposed.

Most states have some sort of reciprocity, and more are getting it every year. This would be a big step forward in free-market legal services … and a major blow to the good ole boy system.

The opposition hates it so much … and we temporarily had to move it to a local DENNY’S restaurant … because they actually filed a ZONING / Business Use violation as we were not authorized to have public meetings inside our HQ (outside is OK) as we are just formally permitted as a “business office” AND a PODCAST STUDIO!!! Yes, we are formally permitted at our HQ as a PodCast Studio … so guess what we can do!!!
We are now LIVESTREAMING the meeting not just for our local Greenville Friends … but also statewide (and worldwide as we have had members watch from Europe & even from a transatlantic cruise).
