In news that could not come soon enough for grassroots advocates in South Carolina (and across the Nation) … President Donald Trump has announced his endorsements for the new Republican National Committee (RNC) Chair & Co-Chair. (See formal DJT statement: HERE)
TRUMP’s picks …
RNC Chair: Michael Whatley to replace Ronna McDaniel
RNC Co-Chair: Lara Trump to replace Drew McKissick
TRUMP also asked for Chris LaCivita (HERE) to assume the role of Chief Operating Officer of the RNC. Trump stated “Chris will manage the RNC’s day-to-day operations so it will become a fighting machine for 2024 and use all the tools available to win for the American people.” (HERE)
Many of us did not expect the announcement to come before the February 24th South Carolina Presidential Preference Primary … feeling that if SCGOP Chairman Drew McKissick was not picked he would “vindictively” take it out on President TRUMP in the upcoming primary … but apparently the TRUMP TEAM was undaunted and made their pick earlier than expected. It was certainly something the grassroots TRUMP base in South Carolina was calling for since they are largely against Drew McKissick.
This is a “bold pick“ one activist told us, and it is indicative of the direction President TRUMP will take in dealing with the RINO “establishment” going forward. “We are remaking the Republican Party” the activist continued.
THE NEXT TEST … what will the RNC Members DO? President TRUMP can make his endorsement, but the real question is what will the 168 “Members” of the RNC (HERE) actually do when the vote come up? TRUMP had endorsed Michael Whatley over Drew McKissick for Co-Chair last year … but the RNC Members picked McKissick.
This is endorsement for Chair however is much higher stakes … and the Republican base has been seeking change at the top of the RNC for some time now … so stay tuned, it will be interesting … especially if McKissick continues to lobby for the position.
