Yesterday we introduced you all to the issue here in South Carolina of open primaries and documented Democrats voting in the Republican Primaries (HERE) … and it created a bit of a stir.
Some found it hard to believe that elected Democrats as well as Democrat candidates were openly voting in the June Republican Primaries.
Well … it is true … and not a secret to those actively involved in the SCGOP leadership. But, they are no doing anything about it. Why?
And to make it worse … a new friend in the SCGOP leadership provided us with a copy of this JANUARY 24, 2015, Resolution of the SCGOP State Executive Committee calling for Closed Primaries. It is even on the SCGOP Website (HERE) … for right now … but nothing has been done? Nothing in 8 1/2 years?!?!?!
As we teach … “Watch what they DO, not what they SAY.“

DIMITRI CHERNY
But … we found one other thing perhaps even worse … open Democrats running as REPUBLICANS.
This example from 2018 is where a Bernie Sanders supporting Democrat by the name of Dimitri Cherny filed and ran as a Republican for Congress against then Congressman Mark Sanford. (HERE).
Dimitri even had a tattoo of Bernie on his forearm. Our “Republican” candidate on the ballot had a Bernie tattoo … can it get any crazier?!?!?! Maybe, as Dimitri received 1,932 votes in the Republican Primary. #OMG!!! Yep, it got crazier.
And guess what … at the end of the day, Democrat Joe Cunningham won the 1st Congressional District seat that year!!! Because of Open Primaries?
So … Dimitri’s stunt worked … and 5 1/2 years later nothing has been done about it by the SCGOP or the SC Republican Super Majority … except of course a “feel good” Resolution and Press Release.
As we teach … “Watch what they DO, not what they SAY.“
P.S. We think they were all more interested in that big red “DONATE” button than actually doing anything about the problem. Agree???
REGISTRATION BY PARTY?
CLOSED PRIMARIES VS. REGISTRATION BY PARTY: There is a debate between whether we need full on closed primaries or just registration by party … but either way we need to have the debate … and we need to DO SOMETHING!!!
Will “they”?
Probably not … but maybe the better question is will “WE”? Will #WeThePeople actually do something? Times are changing … so YES, we think so!!!
Next June every SC State House (124) & every SC State Senate (46) seat is up for grabs. Time for change?
